Concerns regarding certain faculty members using fictitious fingerprints to record their attendance in the Aadhaar-Enabled Biometric Attendance System (AEBAS) have been brought to light by a public notice from the NMC. The NMC has mandated that all faculty members physically record their attendance using the AEBAS, citing this practice as a major problem.
The NMC’s notification makes it clear that falsifying attendance will result in severe consequences. This action is intended to stop dishonest business activities and guarantee that faculty members are actually present and performing their jobs. The NMC aims to maintain the quality of medical education and improve accountability by mandating personal attendance marking.
The NMC has also directed medical schools to add comprehensive faculty listings for every department to their college websites. The names, current photos, educational background, most recent designations, and registration numbers from the relevant state medical councils must all be included on this faculty list. According to the instruction, positions that are part of any department, such as the medical superintendent, principal, or dean, must also be included as administrative figures.
The NMC has set a deadline of July 31 for the initial upload of these faculty lists on the college websites. Moreover, these lists must be updated monthly, with the final submission date being the last day of each month. Failure to comply with these requirements—whether through incorrect, incomplete, or delayed submissions—will attract appropriate actions against the concerned medical institutions and colleges.
