Two Nashik Prison Doctors Arrested for Accepting Bribe to Issue Inmate’s Release Certificate

The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) in Nashik made a noteworthy arrest when they detained two jail doctors who had taken a Rs 30,000 bribe. In the incident, the doctors demanded a bribe in exchange for providing an inmate with a medical certificate—a crucial document required for the inmate’s release from custody. After haggling, the jailed doctors agreed to accept Rs 30,000 instead of the original demand of Rs 40,000 for the certificate.

The complainant, an inmate’s family, claimed that the doctors demanded a bribe in exchange for providing a medical certificate attesting to the inmate’s suitability for release from Nashik Road Central Jail. The concerned prisoner, who is above 65, has completed 14 years in incarceration. As per the prison rules, an individual who is over 65 and has served 14 years in prison may be released if they are deemed medically fit.

Following the doctors’ insistence, the complainant went to the ACB, and the officials first confirmed the complaint before setting up a trap. In Mumbai Naka’s Govindnagar neighborhood, where the doctors had consented to take the money, the trap was set. The two doctors who had accepted the bribe were exposed. The ACB’s prompt action demonstrates their dedication to reducing systemic corruption.
Further information about the accused was given by an ACB official, who said that one of the doctors is a Class 1 officer and the other a Class 2 officer. This division among their ranks highlights how serious the problem is and shows how corruption may penetrate different tiers of the bureaucracy.

In accordance with the applicable provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act, the Mumbai Naka police filed a First Information Report (FIR) against the doctors after their detention. This Act imposes severe penalties for those found guilty of such offenses and is intended to combat corruption in public offices.
This episode highlights the ongoing problem of corruption in the jail and hospital systems. It also emphasizes how critical it is for authorities and communities to be vigilant and take aggressive steps to stop these kinds of unethical behavior. It is admirable that the complainant had the guts to disclose the bribe demand, and that the ACB acted quickly to uphold integrity and accountability in the system. Two jail doctors in Nashik were arrested after they accepted bribes, exposing a concerning case of corruption. It also serves as a reminder of how important it is for oversight organizations like the ACB to uphold moral standards in public services. The matter is still being looked into, and it’s unclear what legal repercussions the accused may have under the Prevention of Corruption Act.
