Dr. Senthilkumar, a doctor at a government hospital in Salem, has been the subject of a departmental investigation after he allegedly got into a fight with the police and refused to examine seven murder case suspects. Before bringing the seven suspects in a murder case before the judicial magistrate at the Attur sub-court, the Karipatty police took them to the government hospital in Vazhapadi for a medical checkup on a Saturday night.
The police claim that the on-duty physician, Dr. Senthilkumar, first declined to examine the defendants, stating that he was unable to do so from his present location. The Salem Government Mohan Kumaramangalam Medical College and Hospital was the place he insisted on taking them to. However, because the accused had to get a medical examination before being brought to court, the police officials asked him to examine him at the Vazhapadi hospital. In response, Dr. Senthilkumar reportedly yelled at the cops, angrily confronted them, and accused them of entering the hospital without his permission.
When the police were unable to obtain the necessary medical evaluation at the Vazhapadi hospital, the situation became more heated. In order to finish the required process, they subsequently made the decision to take the accused to the government hospital in Attur. Due to Dr. Senthilkumar’s lack of professionalism and refusal to assist law enforcement, the police, especially Special Sub-Inspector Ramesh, reported the incident to higher authorities.
The Joint Director of Health, Dr. Malarvizhi Vallal, launched a departmental investigation into Dr. Senthilkumar’s behavior after the incident. The inquiry’s conclusions will be sent to higher authorities for additional action, she said. Ramesh also formally complained to the Vazhapadi police, asking them to take proper action against the doctor for his actions.
The police have started their own investigation into the case, aiming to ascertain if Dr. Senthilkumar’s failure to carry out his responsibilities was appropriate or if it amounted to professional misconduct. The case brings to light the conflicts that exist between law enforcement and medical experts, particularly when it comes to the treatment of people who are in custody. The investigation’s conclusion may affect Dr. Senthilkumar’s professional future as well as the hospital’s policies around collaboration with law enforcement.
