Nov. 10, Kolkata (PTI): According to officials on Sunday, a second-year nursing student at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital made a tragic attempt on her life late Saturday night following an apparent disagreement with her roommate in the hostel.
The young woman, who is from West Bengal’s Purulia area, is presently being treated at the trauma care section of the hospital.
A senior police officer disclosed that preliminary investigations indicate the incident occurred after the two roommates argued over turning off a light. “The college administration had previously received a complaint from the student. But the authorities allegedly blamed her, which apparently made her more upset,” the official said.
Sadly, the student was discovered in a critical condition, lying in a pool of blood, by her peers. She was hurried for medical help right away. Since then, the police have begun a thorough investigation to determine the events leading up to the occurrence.
In order to avoid tragedies like this one, educational institutions must provide more resources for conflict resolution and mental health care.
