An ultrasound first showed that he had a hernia because of pressure from a piece of flesh in his lower abdomen pressing on other internal organs.
Mistri went to a free camp for hernia check-ups, where his problem was assessed in further detail. After examining Mistri’s ultrasound, BRD Medical College professor Dr. Narendra Dev verified that a hernia was present. The results of the following procedure astounded Dr. Dev and his surgical team. They found that the fleshy protrusion from the abdominal membrane into the canal was not the expected hernia, but rather an undeveloped uterus with an ovary adjacent.
This was an unexpected finding brought about by a rare congenital disease. Mistri’s body had been born with female reproductive organs, a congenital abnormality that had remained undetected all of his life. Mistri had not displayed any outwardly feminine traits despite this uncommon anatomical defect, which had no bearing on his physical appearance or his identification as a man.
According to Dr. Dev, this highly unusual disorder is characterized by incomplete or aberrant development of the reproductive organs, resulting in the presence of structures typical of one gender in an individual of the opposite gender. Before they cause issues or are identified by imaging tests or surgery, some disorders may be undiagnosed or asymptomatic for many years.
Mistri’s hernia surgery went smoothly after the discovery, and he is said to be in excellent health. Unexpectedly, during the course of the hernia surgery, the undeveloped uterus and ovary were discovered, offering a unique window into Mistri’s uncommon medical condition.
