Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, the chief minister of Himachal Pradesh, announced a major policy shift on Monday that will affect the pay of allopathic physicians who take study leave to enroll in postgraduate (PG) programs. According to the new regulation, the state government would now approve 100% of their pay while they are on study leave, deeming their studies to be “on duty.” When on study leave, these physicians used to only get 40% of their pay. This action is a part of the government’s continuous efforts to encourage medical professionals’ professional growth in order to improve the state’s healthcare system.
The significance of postgraduate medical students striking a balance between their academic obligations and patient care was underlined by CM Sukhu. Both their personal development and the general standard of healthcare in Himachal Pradesh depend on this combined commitment. The state government hopes to provide these doctors with financial help by paying them in full during their study leave, enabling them to concentrate on their studies without worrying about money. According to the administration, this program would raise the standard of medical education, which will eventually strengthen the state’s healthcare system.
This choice is in line with the state government’s overarching goal of enhancing the provision of healthcare and specialised medical services to its residents. Postgraduate students are essential to the state’s healthcare system, and CM Sukhu emphasized that bolstering their education will improve medical services for Himachal Pradesh’s citizens. By taking this action, the government hopes to promote a stronger healthcare system that not only addresses present demands but also gets ready for upcoming difficulties.
Alongside this announcement, CM Sukhu also revealed the JICA Vaniki Project’s 2025 calendar, a forestry project designed to enhance the state’s forest protection and management. Several high-ranking government representatives attended the event, including Sameer Rastogi, the Chief Project Director of the Vaniki Project, and Kamlesh Kumar Pant, Additional Chief Secretary of the Forest Department.
