The 15th World Conference on Injury Prevention and Safety Promotion, or “Safety 2024,” will take place in New Delhi, India, from September 2–4. The main goal of this significant international gathering is to further worldwide initiatives in vital areas like drowning prevention and traffic safety.
The National Institute of Mental Health and Neuro Sciences (NIMHANS), the George Institute for Global Health, the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), and the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi are collaborating to arrange the conference. The World Health Organization (WHO) co-sponsors it. This partnership emphasizes how crucial the conference is to solving issues related to global safety.
“Building a Safer Future for All: Equitable and Sustainable Strategies for Injury and Violence Prevention” is the theme for Safety 2024. The conference will highlight initiatives aimed at lowering injuries and violence, particularly in areas where children and adolescents are particularly susceptible. International specialists will share state-of-the-art research, creative approaches, and cooperative methods during the three days of the event with the goal of promoting global injury prevention and safer surroundings.
Nitin Gadkari, Minister of Union Road and Transport, will give the inaugural speech and discuss the commitment of the Indian government to enhancing road safety. This demonstrates the conference’s emphasis on enhancing safety both domestically and internationally.
A wide range of global experts will be present at the conference, including David Ward, Executive President of the Global New Car Assessment Programme (Global NCAP), Rebecca Stapleton from the Asian Development Bank (ADB) in the Philippines, and Dipan Bose (pending confirmation) from the World Bank in the USA. Their involvement will add important viewpoints and insights into issues related to global safety.
Under the direction of the International Organizing Committee, which is presided over by George Washington University Professor Adnan Hyderi, Safety 2024 seeks to make substantial advancements in the prevention of injuries and violence. Senior Research Fellow Jagnoor Jagnoor of the George Institute of Global Health stressed the importance of the conference in developing creative solutions, solidifying alliances, and quickening the transition to a safer and healthier future for everybody.
In order to address regional concerns and opportunities pertaining to road safety, drowning prevention, fall prevention, and other injury-related issues, India’s active engagement as the conference host is considered to be essential. Safety 2020 in Adelaide, Australia, and Safety 2018 in Bangkok, Thailand, are the two conferences that preceded this one.
