Official sources state that the Union Health Ministry has approved the start of MBBS programs at five new medical institutions in Uttar Pradesh. In addition, there are now 100 seats available at Kanpur Dehat and Lalitpur, two established medical colleges, up from 50 previously. As a result of this decision, the state now has 600 additional MBBS seats, bringing the total number of new seats for the 2024–25 academic year to 1,200.
100 MBBS seats would be available at each of the recently recognized medical institutions, which are situated in Auraiya, Chandauli, Gonda, Lakhimpur Kheri, and Kaushambi. The state’s medical education system now has significantly more capacity because to the seat increases in Kanpur Dehat and Lalitpur.
Following Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s interaction with Union Health Minister JP Nadda, the medical college principals filed an appeal with the National Medical Commission (NMC). This is the latest move in the matter. Seven medical colleges were recognized as a result of the successful appeal, which was a major step in increasing the availability of medical education in Uttar Pradesh.
There are currently 11,200 MBBS seats available in Uttar Pradesh, 5,150 of which are in government medical colleges and 6,050 in private ones. By adding more qualified healthcare workers, particularly in neglected areas, this expansion seeks to improve the state’s healthcare infrastructure.
