TGMC Cracks Down on Quacks: Raids Reveal Illegal Medical Practices in Karimnagar and Hyderabad

Telangana Medical Council (TGMC) inspectors in Hyderabad searched three Karimnagar clinics and discovered alarming evidence of medical malpractice. It was found that four unlicensed medical practitioners operated the three clinics that were being attacked, namely Venkateshwara Clinic, Lakshmi Clinic, and Lalitha Pali Clinic. In addition to prescription medications and antibiotics, these quacks were providing steroids to their patients, dangerously jeopardizing their health.

A press statement from the Telangana Medical Council (TGMC) states that cases under Sections 34 read with Section 54 of the NMC Act, 2019 and the Telangana Medical Council Rules 2013 TMPR Act, 1968 will be filed against these ineligible practitioners in the relevant police stations. The NMC Act’s Section 34 forbids anyone who isn’t a licensed medical practitioner from engaging in medical practice. “No person shall practice medicine in any state other than a person who has a recognized medical qualification and is enrolled on a State Register or the National Register,” the law declares. Penalties for breaking Section 34 are outlined in Section 54 and include a maximum one-year jail sentence, a fine of up to five lakh rupees, or both.

The Telangana government formed the Telangana Medical Council (TSMC) as a statutory organization to oversee the state’s medical industry. The council’s efforts to combat quack medicine are a part of a larger program to make sure that medical procedures follow the law and ethical guidelines.

Apart from its operations in Karimnagar, the TGMC has also been involved in raids in other areas. The council found 55 people impersonating as doctors without the necessary medical credentials during several raids on first-aid stations in the Suryapet and Nalgonda districts in May. These quacks were discovered practicing illegal covert abortion procedures, giving dangerous hazards to patients’ health, and giving antibiotics, abortion pills, and steroid injections.

In Hyderabad, the TGMC primarily targeted unqualified practitioners in the IDPL, Shapur, and Chintal districts. During inspections by eight-person teams, it was discovered that these quacks were treating patients, writing prescriptions for large doses of antibiotics, and performing various surgeries without the necessary training. As part of their illegal activities, these pretend doctors had established diagnostic clinics and medical shops.

These quacks’ acts jeopardize the lives of gullible patients in addition to compromising the credibility of the medical community. Without appropriate medical supervision, giving antibiotics and steroids can have serious negative effects on health, such as antibiotic resistance and dangerous medication reactions. In order to safeguard public health and guarantee that medical procedures in the area follow accepted legal and ethical norms, the TGMC’s raids and accompanying legal actions are essential.

The goal of the TGMC is to eradicate quack medicine and rebuild public confidence in the medical establishment by strictly enforcing the NMC Act and other pertinent regulations. Legal processes will be based on the gathered facts and filed First Information Reports, guaranteeing that those who participate in such risky activities are held responsible. In order to protect the public’s health, this crackdown on quack clinics emphasizes the significance of regulatory control in the medical industry as well as the necessity of ongoing vigilance and strict implementation of medical regulations.
