A. Revanth Reddy, the chief minister of Telangana, has responded to a worrying dengue and chikungunya outbreak in the state with stern measures. The Chief Minister has instructed state officials to look into the reasons behind the recent spike in these diseases carried by mosquitoes, which has been a major source of worry. Reports of a sharp rise in Dengue cases—724 new cases were reported between August 22 and August 25, 2024—have prompted the issuance of this instruction.
To stop these illnesses from spreading, Chief Minister Reddy has given senior officials instructions to go on field inspections. These inspections are meant to track and assess the efficacy of fogging operations, which are being carried out as a deterrent against the spread of mosquitoes. One essential technique to lower mosquito populations and lower the risk of disease transmission is fogging.
The opposition Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) has also brought attention to the issue, voicing concerns over the increasing number of illnesses and deaths associated with it. This has increased the pressure on the state administration to act quickly and decisively in handling the problem.
In August 27, 2024, at a review meeting at the State Secretariat, the Chief Minister stressed the importance of addressing seasonal diseases like dengue and chikungunya. The meeting’s main objectives were to assess the effectiveness of the current controls on the spread of these illnesses and to talk about outbreak management techniques and preventative measures. The Chief Minister conveyed his profound concern on the rising incidence of viral fevers, such as Dengue and Chikungunya, that have been reported in different parts of the state.
The Chief Minister has instructed district Collectors to conduct field inspections and create detailed action plans in response to the worsening circumstances. The Panchayat Raj department will work with these plans to evaluate the situation on the ground and put appropriate measures in place. This strategy seeks to guarantee that the response is prompt and customized to meet the unique requirements of every district.
Following the review meeting, Health Minister C. Damodar Raja Narimha called a separate meeting with representatives of the Health department. He gave the order to create a state-level control room during this meeting in order to effectively organize and oversee the outbreak response. It is anticipated that this control room will increase the effectiveness of the state’s efforts to combat the illnesses and better general public health management.
In order to combat the dengue and chikungunya outbreaks, the Telangana government is mobilizing resources and coordinating efforts at all levels, with an emphasis on both short-term solutions and long-term preventive measures.
