The Sheikh Bhikhari Medical College and Hospital incident involving suspected medical malpractice has prompted an investigation by the district authorities in Hazaribag. The investigation was brought about by claims made by Kalicharan Yadav’s family, who passed away in the hospital. Kalicharan’s brother, Umesh Gope, claims that during his treatment, medical workers gave him empty oxygen cylinders, which is what ultimately caused him to pass away.
Kalicharan Yadav was seriously hurt in his chest in an accident on Hurhuru Road involving a truck carrying livestock, and was brought to the government hospital on September 26. Umesh Gope accused the hospital workers and doctors of carelessness in a First Information Report (FIR) he filed at the Hazaribag Sadar police station. He said that three oxygen cylinders were given to Kalicharan in succession while he was being treated, and it was discovered that they were all empty. Kalicharan suffered from significant breathing troubles as a result, which ultimately caused his death.
The medical superintendent of the hospital, Dr. Anukaran Purti, indicated that an inquiry has been ordered to look into the accusations. It is premature to conclude, according to Dr. Purti, whether the oxygen cylinders were genuinely empty or only partially filled with oxygen. He added that further research is required to determine how and why three oxygen cylinders were to be utilized consecutively during the course of the treatment. The hospital’s newest employee, Dr. Purti, continued, saying he is still getting used to the facility’s procedures.
Dr. Purti has mandated that all empty oxygen cylinders be removed from the hospital’s grounds in order to stop such incidents. He made it clear that those found to be at fault for the negligence will face harsh consequences following the submission of the inquiry findings.
This episode raises questions about patient safety in government facilities as well as medical malpractice. The claims of empty oxygen cylinders cast doubt on the sufficiency of hospital equipment as well as the caliber of healthcare services being rendered. Should the inquiry validate the assertions put out by the family, it would signify a noteworthy breakdown in guaranteeing patient security and appropriate medical attention.
The event serves as a reminder to healthcare facilities of the significance of stringent quality control procedures and accountability. It also highlights how important it is for hospital workers to receive the right training and oversight in order to prevent these potentially fatal errors in patient care. Based on the investigation’s findings, the authorities are supposed to take the necessary steps to make sure that similar situations don’t happen again.
