Private Hospitals in Kolkata Set to Revise Charges Amid Rising Costs

As the new fiscal year gets off, private hospitals in Kolkata are getting ready to make changes to their fees. The cost of procedures, supplies, OPD consultations, and diagnostic tests are anticipated to increase as a result of this change, possibly resulting in higher costs for patients who pay with cash.

The increase in the price of surgical instruments, implants, procedure instruments, and ancillary supplies is the main cause of the charge revision. Patients with insurance may not be immediately impacted by bed and package fees or diagnostic costs that need approval from insurance companies, but those who pay cash may see a major increase in prices.

Hospitals are concentrating especially on sectors like angioplasty, heart, thoracic, and cardiovascular surgery, as well as devices used in spine and orthopedic treatments and specific implants like pacemakers compatible with MRIs. This targeted approach seeks to alleviate the particular cost pressures in these domains without enforcing a uniform rate increase.

Peerless Hospital is one such hospital that is currently updating its prices, which include diagnostic and out-of-office consultation fees. The hospital intends to enact a fair rise in the near future, however the precise amount has not been decided upon yet. However, choices on surgery fees will be based on changes in the price of implants and devices.

The bulk of Peerless Hospital’s patients are insured, according to CEO Sudipta Mitra, suggesting that most patients may not be directly impacted by the pricing changes. Any modifications for insured patients, however, would be in accordance with the conditions of the contracts with insurance providers.

The hospital’s dedication to equitable and open pricing is shown in the modification of OPD consultation fees, which will be contingent upon the seniority of the attending physicians. All things considered, these changes are a reflection of the continued difficulties that healthcare providers have in controlling growing expenses while maintaining patient quality.
