Two unidentified guys broke into the Community Health Centre in Dhakoli, Zirakpur, attacked a pregnant medical officer, and then made off with medical supplies, including syringes and injections, in a disturbing event. The incident happened on a Saturday night at around seven o’clock, and the CCTV cameras in the center recorded it. The intruders were met by eight-month pregnant medical officer Dr. Prabhjot Kaur when they entered room number 3, which contained the syringes and injections.
According to Dr. Kaur, the men shoved her and fled with the medical supplies when she tried to stop them. Dr. Kaur conveyed her serious concerns about her safety and the psychological trauma she was experiencing in her statement to the police. She also requested full-time protection to protect her safety, expressing her rising dread of instability at work. Medical personnel feel insecure as a result of the growing trend of security breakdowns at healthcare facilities, which is highlighted by this occurrence.
CCTV cameras installed at the health center captured the entire incident, which will probably help the authorities identify and capture the suspects. The police have filed a complaint under the provisions pertaining to grabbing and assault, or the use of criminal force to prevent a public official from doing their duties. The investigation’s head detective, DSP Jaspinder Singh Gill, verified that the complaint had been filed at the Dhakoli police station and mentioned that the suspects were being sought after.
This incident raises concerns about the safety of healthcare personnel, especially women, in such circumstances and draws attention to the worrying lack of security in healthcare institutions. Medical personnel frequently work in front-line positions and perform vital tasks; events such as these can impair their capacity to do so safely and successfully. It is becoming more and more obvious that hospitals and health facilities, particularly those in smaller towns and regions, need to strengthen their security measures.
Furthermore, Dr. Kaur will suffer a great deal on an emotional and psychological level. Her pregnancy puts her in a precarious situation. She informed her senior medical officer about the occurrence and requested that security be installed at the health center right once in order to stop such incidents from happening in the future. It is hoped that as investigations move forward, the perpetrators will be apprehended quickly and that stronger security measures will be put in place to shield medical personnel from assaults in the future.
