PMC Issues Show Cause Notices to Six Private Hospitals for Violating Health Regulations

Six private hospitals in the city received show-cause warnings from the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) health department on Monday for breaking the Maharashtra Nursing Home Registration (Amendment) Rules, 2021 and the Bombay Nursing Home Registration Act 194 standards. Following instructions from the public health department, PMC’s health department conducted a recent round of inspections during which the infractions were found.

The hospitals in question are spread over a number of locations, including Hingne Khurd, Anand Nagar, Narhe, and Sinhagad Road. The failure to get a valid fire department No Objection Certificate (NOC), which is a statutory requirement for all healthcare institutions, was the common infraction identified across these hospitals, according to Dr. Suryakant Devkar, assistant health officer of PMC. Furthermore, it was discovered that these facilities had failed to exhibit crucial documents, including the Patients’ Rights Charter, which is also required by law under the Nursing Home Act.

The lack of a visible treatment tariff list, which should list the prices for different medical services, and the omission of information about the grievance redressal cell and contact numbers—both of which are crucial for patients seeking help or addressing concerns—were additional violations. The stated guidelines for running a healthcare center in Maharashtra are directly violated by these infractions.

Out of more than 850 registered healthcare facilities in the city, PMC has inspected 170 private hospitals and assisted living facilities thus far. In order to prevent additional sanctions, these six hospitals—which fall into the small and medium-sized hospital category—have been told to resolve the infractions within 30 days. Although Dr. Devkar stressed that the PMC will take severe action if these hospitals do not comply, he also pointed out that those who are actually having trouble following the regulations may be granted a break.

This action by PMC emphasizes how crucial it is to make sure private healthcare facilities follow laws that put patient safety and openness first. By upholding these regulations, the civic organization hopes to raise the city’s healthcare service standards and make hospitals answerable for their duties to the public and patients. PMC’s continuous efforts to oversee the healthcare sector and guarantee that all of the city’s hospitals adhere to the relevant safety and regulatory requirements include the inspections and compliance deadlines.
