Seven private hospitals in the city have received show-cause notices from the Pune Municipal Corporation’s (PMC) health department for allegedly breaking a number of regulations specified in the Maharashtra Nursing Home Registration (Amendment) Rules, 2021 and the Bombay Nursing Home Registration Act of 1949. Following a week-long comprehensive inspection campaign by PMC, which examined 135 private hospitals throughout the city, these infractions were found. Allopathy, AYUSH, Unani, and Naturopathy therapies are provided by the hospitals under investigation, which are spread across Sinhagad Road, Narhe, Anand Nagar, and Hingne Khurd.
The purpose of the inspection was to make sure hospitals were following all applicable health and safety laws. Verifying that each hospital had the appropriate number of physicians and nurses on staff and that the facility was displaying rate lists for services and treatments as required by law were important checks. The hospitals’ adherence to fire safety rules, specifically the requirement to obtain a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the fire department, was also evaluated. In order to maintain health and safety standards in healthcare institutions, the inspection also evaluated how hospitals handled the disposal of biomedical waste.
The PMC took additional action once it was discovered that the seven hospitals that got the show cause warnings had failed in one or more of these areas. These hospitals have been given a month to address the infractions, according to Assistant Health Officer Suryakant Deokar. The PMC has issued a warning that it will take severe measures, which may include license revocation and fines, if they do not meet the necessary requirements within this time limit.
