At the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) grand opening in Jammu, Prime Minister Narendra Modi emphasized the institution’s importance in enabling Jammu residents to receive specialist medical care without having to go to Delhi. The hospital is located along National Highway 44 on a spacious 226.84-acre tract in the Vijaypur section of the Samba district. It was created as a component of the Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojana (PMSSY), which aims to improve medical education standards, alleviate healthcare inequities in different regions, and encourage evidence-based research.
At a public gathering that followed the announcement of and placement of foundation stones for many projects worth over Rs 32,000 crore, Prime Minister Modi emphasized advancements in the healthcare industry in Jammu & Kashmir. He said that in the last ten years, the area’s medical college count has grown from four to twelve. This means there will be more options for medical education and a larger healthcare infrastructure in the state, which will lessen the need for locals to go outside of the area for medical care.
Significant improvements in medical education and healthcare in Jammu & Kashmir have been announced by Prime Minister Modi. While there were no PG medical seats at first, there are now 650, more than doubling the number of MBBS seats from 500 to 1300. 35 new colleges for paramedics and nurses are also being established. With the opening of AIIMS Jammu, one of the 15 new AIIMS around the country, locals would save time and money by not having to travel to Delhi for specialist medical care. This highlights a revolutionary change in the area toward easily available healthcare.
With the founding of esteemed universities such as AIIMS, IIT, and IIM, Jammu & Kashmir has attained a distinct standing in India under the leadership of Prime Minister Modi. Union Minister Jitendra Singh emphasized the government’s dedication to infrastructure development, particularly in J&K, and credited the prime minister’s proactive attitude for the accomplishment of large-scale projects. An important milestone was reached with the opening of AIIMS Jammu, which plans to serve 2000–3000 patients a day in its outpatient section. A total of 750 beds, including 193 intensive care unit beds, will be established as part of AIIMS Jammu’s Phase 1 to offer comprehensive medical services that include trauma care, general care, and specialist treatment. This demonstrates the government’s commitment to promoting growth throughout the entire region.
The goal of AIIMS Jammu is to open over 50 departments that provide both general and specialty medical services. Modern amenities including 20 modular occupational therapy rooms, nuclear medicine, and 24-hour MRI and CT scan services will provide prompt and compassionate medical care. Together with other facilities and collaborations, the 30-bed, two-story “Aayush Block” symbolizes a comprehensive healthcare strategy that combines conventional and modern medicine to enhance local health results.
