Three physicians and two nurses from Imperial Hospital in Chikhali have been charged with medical negligence in connection with a tragic occurrence that occurred in Pune and resulted in the death of a two-year-old kid. The incident happened on November 18, 2023, when the toddler’s pediatrician, Dr. Jitesh Madansingh Dobhal, referred him to the hospital with a cold.
Deepali Gadevar, the child’s mother, said that her son suffered significant burn burns to his left leg while receiving treatment while in a baby warmer. Following the baby’s admission to the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU), the mother was asked to leave the PICU on November 18 in order for samples to be taken by medical personnel. Upon her return, she found her child burned, and an hour later, the physicians told her the infant had died as a result of the injuries.
The child’s injuries were caused by the hospital staff’s negligence in utilizing the warmer, according to the complaint. The mother claims that the medical professionals and nursing personnel failed to keep an eye on the child’s condition. She added that she feels her child’s death was ultimately caused by the lack of proper care given throughout the incident.
Section 338 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), which deals with causing grievous pain by an act that endangers the life or personal safety of others, was used by the police to file a First Information Report (FIR) in response to the complaint. After a medical board from Sassoon General Hospital (SGH) and BJ Medical College (BJMC) examined the case and verified hospital staff negligence, the FIR was filed on November 5, 2024.
Dr. Rohan Pranhans Mali, Dr. Rajnish Jagdamba Prasad Mishra, Dr. Jitesh Dobhal, and nurses Rachel Anil Dive and Savita Nandkishore Varwate are the accused in this case. Despite filing the FIR, no one has been taken into custody as of yet, and the police are still looking into the event. According to the mother’s lawsuit, her child died tragically as a result of the hospital’s negligence.
