Medical Council Grants 3-Day Window for MBBS Students Abroad to Rectify Certificate Issues

A notice about incomplete eligibility certificate applications from MBBS students who studied overseas without the necessary paperwork has been released by the National Medical Commission (NMC). The notice gives applicants, especially those submitting Annexure-I applications, a three-day grace period to address any errors found. After a careful examination, the NMC Ethics and Medical Registration Board (EMRB) found errors in the applications. The notification underscores the importance of the recent scrutiny procedure and stresses the necessity of quick correction to enable the issue of eligibility certificates.

It has come to the attention of the National Medical Commission (NMC) that certain individuals mentioned in Annexure-I traveled overseas without obtaining the required eligibility certificate. As a result, the board is giving these applicants a three-day window to provide the necessary data via the NMC eligibility portal. The applications of the aforementioned applicants will be summarily rejected if they do not remedy the deficiencies or provide the required documentation within three days of the notice being published. This highlights how critical it is for impacted applicants to address their deficiencies as soon as possible in order to prevent having their applications denied.

An earlier list of 972 students who pursued MBBS education overseas without obtaining the required eligibility certificate was made public by the National Medical Commission (NMC). The NMC gave these students ten days to submit their applications for certificates. The regulatory body stressed that their applications would be denied if they didn’t resolve this matter in the allotted time. This move demonstrates the NMC’s dedication to upholding the eligibility certification procedure and guaranteeing that the necessary paperwork is submitted in a timely manner for students pursuing an MBBS overseas.

For the Foreign Medical Graduate Examination (FMGE) 2023 eligibility certificate, the National Medical Commission (NMC) had issued a call for submissions in October. Nevertheless, the NMC found flaws in multiple applications after going through the Ethics and Medical Registration Board (EMRB) review process. The Indian Medical Council Act of 1956, which requires obtaining an eligibility certificate prior to enrolling in a medical institution abroad after a specific date, was cited by the commission. The applications’ flaws have been identified, which highlights the NMC’s compliance with legal requirements for Indian students seeking medical education abroad.

The NMC made it clear that the requirement for an eligibility certificate to study overseas was put in place following the release of the NEET UG 2019 results. Students who wish to enroll in MBBS programs at overseas universities must meet this requirement, regardless of whether they are Indian or Overseas Citizens of India (OCI). In accordance with the regulatory framework put in place following the NEET UG 2019 announcement, the NMC highlights that all such students must pass the NEET exam in order to be eligible.
