The fraudsters told the doctor to download a smartphone application in order to ostensibly facilitate his trading activities as he kept making investments. Nevertheless, the application served as a means for the con artists to obtain the financial and personal data of the physician. They made large losses totaling Rs 3.42 crore by using this information to carry out transactions from his bank account without his knowledge or approval.
The hoax took advantage of the doctor’s confidence and ignorance of cyberthreats by pretending to be real investment options. Through the filing of a case under the applicable cybercrime and cheating parts of the legislation, the cyber police have taken action. To stop more financial losses, they are collecting evidence and blocking the accounts used in the fraudulent transactions.
