KS Hegde Medical College Inaugurates New Building, Launches Nuclear Medicine Services

Dinesh Gundu Rao, the minister of health and family welfare, and U. T. Khader, the speaker of the legislative assembly, will officially open the new facilities at K.S. Hegde Hospital, which is a component of Nitte (Deemed to be University), on Monday. The K.S. Hegde Medical Academy (KSHEMA) is celebrating its silver anniversary with this momentous occasion that underscores the institution’s unwavering dedication to improving healthcare and medical education in the area.

One of the new facilities is a hospital extension that has gamma knives and PET/CT scans, among other cutting-edge diagnostic and therapeutic tools. The hospital’s ability to identify and handle a wide range of complicated medical issues will be greatly improved by these additions. Incorporating cutting-edge diagnostic instruments such as the PET/CT scan will yield trustworthy data regarding malignancies and other conditions impacting the heart, brain, and endocrine system. many instruments play a critical role in the timely identification and accurate management of many illnesses, perhaps leading to better patient outcomes.

Additionally, the hospital’s dedication to offering top-notch, specialized treatment is reflected in the new block’s modern intensive care units (ICUs) and operating rooms. These facilities are made to handle a variety of medical demands, such as those related to cardiology, cancer, digestive disorders, neurology, pediatrics, obstetrics, and women’s health. With 1,200 more beds as a result of this expansion, the hospital can now serve more patients and provide a wider range of services.

Apart from these developments, the hospital has opened a state-of-the-art nuclear medicine center. This facility, which has a PET/CT scan, improves the hospital’s capacity for oncology-specific diagnosis and treatment. The hospital’s nuclear medicine specialists may now treat conditions like thyroid and prostate cancer with radioactive medications, giving patients cutting-edge, previously unattainable therapeutic alternatives. To protect patients receiving these treatments, the hospital has put strict safety procedures in place.

The robotic surgery machine, which will shortly be put into service, is another noteworthy element of the new facilities. The most recent advancements in surgical technology are represented by this unit, which enables more accurate and minimally invasive surgeries. Robotic surgery has the potential to enhance patient outcomes by decreasing recovery periods and surgical complications. The hospital’s commitment to implementing the newest medical technology to improve patient care is demonstrated by the addition of this unit.

K.S. Hegde Hospital’s development is a component of Nitte University’s larger initiative to enhance medical education and healthcare services. The hospital is affiliated with KSHEMA, which operates 22 rural health centers throughout four Karnataka districts. These facilities are essential in helping rural populations, who are frequently neglected by established healthcare systems, get access to affordable healthcare treatments. KSHEMA is tackling major healthcare disparities and guaranteeing that more people have access to high-quality medical treatment by expanding its reach into rural areas.

The accomplishments of Nitte University go beyond its medical programs. In terms of Indian universities, the university is ranked 65th in the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) 2023 rankings. The university’s dedication to excellence in teaching, research, and community involvement is demonstrated by this honor. In addition, the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) awarded the university an A+ grade, demonstrating the excellent caliber of its institutional and academic performance.

A worthy commemoration of KSHEMA’s silver jubilee, the opening of the new facilities at K.S. Hegde Hospital marks a key turning point in the hospital’s history. It is a reflection of the organization’s ongoing efforts to modernize its facilities, implement cutting-edge medical technology, and increase the range of services it provides. By doing this, the hospital advances medical education and research in addition to raising the standard of care given to patients.
