A new JSS Biorepository Centre (JSS BC) was opened by the JSS Hospital in Mysuru in its pathology department with the goal of promoting medical research and treatment for a range of ailments, particularly uncommon diseases. In the presence of prominent dignitaries like Dr. B Suresh, pro-chancellor of JSS Academy of Higher Education and Research, Dr. Surinder Singh, vice-chancellor, and CG Betsurmath, executive secretary of JSS Mahavidyapeetha, the facility was officially opened by Dr. Rakesh Mishra, director of the Tata Institute of Genetics and Society (TIGS).
With an emphasis on uncommon genetic illnesses, the JSS Biorepository Centre aims to improve pathology research capacities. It is anticipated that the facility will handle and preserve biological samples, including tissues and physiological fluids, which can be utilized for a range of medical research applications. These biorepositories are essential for advancing clinical translational research as well as basic research, providing fresh perspectives on the molecular causes of diseases. Additionally, they support the creation of individualized treatment programs, which enhances patient results.
Dr. Mishra spoke at the event about the application of genome editing, genomics, and biotherapeutics to the treatment of uncommon diseases. He emphasized the difficulties in identifying and managing uncommon genetic illnesses because of their complexity and low frequency. However, progress in the diagnosis and treatment of many disorders is now achievable due to recent developments in genetic research, particularly in the fields of genomics and biotherapeutics. Dr. Mishra underlined TIGS’ dedication to ensuring that these state-of-the-art scientific discoveries are inexpensive and available to the general public, ensuring that they are not confined to scholarly study but are instead transformed into practical medical benefits.
Dr. Sheela Devi, the head of the pathology department, and Dr. Rekha, an associate professor, gave an overview of the JSS Biorepository Center’s amenities after it was officially opened. They talked about how important biorepositories like this one are to the future of medicine because they give researchers and medical practitioners access to vital biological information that may help them diagnose and cure a wide range of illnesses, including uncommon genetic disorders.
