Dr. Sunil Sahu, a 30-year-old doctor, was shot and killed in his clinic in the Rajendra Nagar neighborhood of Indore, Madhya Pradesh, on the evening of December 27, 2024. Under peculiar circumstances, the murder took place late at night. The accused approached Dr. Sahu’s clinic pretending to be a patient with a cold and cough, paid the 450 rupee consultation charge, and was given medication. The attackers fled after the therapy but later came back with the goal of robbing the doctor.
Police said the perpetrators demanded money and valuables from Dr. Sahu during the robbery attempt. Even though he complied and gave him his wallet and ATM card, Dr. Sahu recognized the attackers and attempted to interact with one of them, which probably resulted in his shooting. When the compounder heard the gunshot and saw the attackers running, he was at the clinic. Following that, Dr. Sahu was taken to Sankalp Hospital and then to Unique Hospital, where he was pronounced deceased.
The assault happened during a power outage and intense rain, which prevented the clinic’s CCTV cameras from capturing any film of the crime, according to the police inquiry. Dr. Sahu had been shot once in the chest, according to preliminary findings. In addition, the compounder claimed hearing a gunshot and seeing three people enter the clinic.
Police learnt during the course of the inquiry that the attackers had been watching the clinic for several hours earlier in the evening, suggesting that the crime was premeditated. An individual named Tiwari’s phone number, which had been used to reach Dr. Sahu earlier in the evening, was tracked down by the authorities. Tiwari disclosed that the call was made by two people using his phone.
Examining Dr. Sahu’s professional relationships further showed that he might have sent patients to his clinic from surrounding communities like Rau and Mhow, which raised concerns about potential rivalry or personal grievances. Furthermore, the compounder’s affiliation with a private pathology lab prompted questions about possible professional rivalry-related motivations. Although the precise motivation for the murder is still unknown, the authorities are still investigating and think it was a planned strike.
