Five Doctors Suspended Following Pregnant Woman’s Death at GMC Rajouri Amid Alleged Medical Negligence

Five doctors were suspended in a tragic event at Government Medical College (GMC) Rajouri after Razim Akhter, a 35-year-old pregnant lady, died on Sunday. Discipline was taken right away in response to the death, which raised questions about medical malpractice. After encountering pregnancy problems, Akhter, a native of Badhaal Kotranka, was admitted to GMC Rajouri at five and a half months of pregnancy. She was first treated in a hospital in Kandi before being sent to GMC Rajouri, where she received specialized care.

Five doctors who were working night shifts in the Emergency Room at the time of the event were suspended, according to officials. Drs. Veenu Bharti and Neetu from the Obstetrics & Gynaecology Department and Shakir Ahmed Parray, Shafkat Ulla, and Anif Saleem Rather from the Casualty Department have been named as the suspended physicians. Eight other employees, including paramedics and support personnel, as well as two physicians—one from the Department of Obstetrics & Gynaecology and another from the Department of Surgery—were also given show-cause letters. The principal of GMC Rajouri has requested that these employees provide an explanation for their apparent negligence.

Many people have expressed disapproval of Razim Akhter’s passing, especially political figures. Former Rajouri MLA Choudhary Qamar Hussain held a press conference calling for responsibility for the incident, while Budhal MLA Javed Iqbal Choudhary expressed profound sadness over the loss. The fact that Akhter had experienced a terrible personal loss only a week before to her own death adds to the tragedy of the circumstance. The family was already grieving deeply since she had lost three of her children to an unexplained illness.

The event has sparked concerns regarding the standard of patient care and healthcare services at GMC Rajouri. An official investigation into the acts of the medical staff involved has been prompted by allegations of malpractice during her treatment. Authorities are taking the situation seriously and are investigating any care errors that might have contributed to her premature death, as evidenced by the doctors’ suspension and the show-cause notices they issued.

This example emphasizes how crucial it is for healthcare providers to fulfil their obligations to provide prompt, appropriate care, particularly for patients with complicated diseases like pregnancy problems.
