In a troubling incident from Rewari, Haryana, a doctor from a private hospital has been booked by the city police for alleged medical negligence during a kidney stone surgery on a woman. The case stems from an operation that took place in February, but an FIR has only recently been registered following an inquiry by the Medical Board for Negligence of the Civil Hospital.
Ajay Kumar, a resident of Gurugram, had brought his wife to Rewari on February 13 after she experienced severe stomach pain. An ultrasound at a private hospital revealed a stone in her right kidney, prompting the doctor to refer them to another hospital in Rewari for the surgery. The surgery was performed, and the woman was discharged. However, upon reviewing the discharge summary, the couple noticed a significant discrepancy—the summary indicated that the surgery had been performed on her left side, not the right where the stone was located.
This alarming inconsistency led Ajay Kumar to confront the doctor on February 24. Despite the doctor’s denial of any negligence, he failed to provide a satisfactory explanation for the error. In a bid to rectify the situation, the doctor offered to perform another surgery free of charge. Unwilling to take further risks, Ajay refused the offer and instead had his wife undergo the necessary surgery at a different hospital.
Concerned about the potential harm caused by the initial surgery, Ajay Kumar lodged a complaint with the police, who subsequently referred the matter to the Civil Surgeon’s Office in Rewari for an official inquiry. The Medical Board for Negligence conducted an investigation, and their findings confirmed that the doctor had indeed been negligent during the surgery.
As a result of the board’s report, the Rewari police registered an FIR against the doctor. Inspector Surender Singh, the Station House Officer (SHO) of the City Police Station in Rewari, confirmed that a case had been registered and that the Gokul police were now investigating the matter further.
This case underscores the critical importance of medical accuracy and accountability, particularly in surgical procedures where errors can have severe consequences for patients. The FIR against the doctor represents a significant step toward addressing medical negligence and ensuring that healthcare professionals are held accountable for their actions. The ongoing investigation will likely shed more light on the circumstances surrounding the case and determine the appropriate legal consequences.
