Doctor Couple and Medical College Trustee Booked for Cheating Gurugram Resident of ₹57.5 Lakh

Six people have been charged with alleged cheating, including a trustee of a medical college in Tumkur, Karnataka, and a couple of doctors from Jamalpur in Farrukhnagar. The defendants are charged with cheating Chhatter Pal Singh, a resident of Gurugram, out of ₹57.5 lakh while claiming to have secured a postgraduate (PG) medical seat for his son.

The event started in March 2022 when the doctor couple, whom Singh, 56, had known for a number of years, contacted him in Sector 46 in Gurugram. The pair asserted that they could get Singh’s kid a reduced postgraduate medical seat at a Tumkur, Karnataka, medical college. They allegedly charged ₹1.3 crore for a seat that normally costs ₹1.5 crore. In March and April of 2022, Singh gave the couple ₹50 lakh in cash because he trusted them.

But when Singh later met the trustee of Bengaluru’s Tumkur College, things changed. The trustee allegedly wanted ₹2 crore for the seat, in violation of the prior agreement. Singh went back to Gurugram since he was unable to fulfil the new demand. In order to complete the payment, he transferred ₹2.5 lakh to the trustee’s bank account and gave ₹5 lakh in cash at a five-star hotel in Sector 18, Gurugram. Singh’s son was not admitted in 2022 as promised, even after these substantial payments.

Singh became frustrated and kept asking the pair to return his money, but they kept putting it off. Throughout 2023, Singh stayed in touch with them in the hopes of reaching an agreement, but nothing materialized. Singh demanded his money back even after his son was able to get a postgraduate seat at a private hospital in Saket, Delhi.

The couple allegedly visited Singh in August 2023 and threatened him while refusing to give back the money. On October 22, 2023, Singh formally complained in response. An FIR was filed on October 24 at the Sector 50 police station under sections 120B (criminal conspiracy) and 420 (cheating) of the Indian Penal Code after an initial investigation by the Economic Offences Wing (EOW).

The situation is presently being investigated by the police, and additional action will be taken in light of the information gathered. In order to make the accused responsible for their conduct, the EOW officials are trying to obtain additional information.
