Doctor Allegedly Leaves Surgical Needle in Patient’s Head at UP Government Hospital, Investigation Ordered

An 18-year-old patient named Sitara had a surgical needle left inside her head in a troubling incident that occurred in the Hapur region of Uttar Pradesh after a doctor performed a stitching procedure at a government community health center. Serious questions concerning the standard of care given in state-run facilities have been raised by this incident.

Sitara was taken to the community health center following a fight with her neighbors that resulted in a head injury. The attending physician determined that she needed stitches, and the medical team performed the treatment. They stitched up the wound, wrapped her head, and sent her on her way. But when they got back home, Sitara started to hurt so bad that she started screaming. When medical professionals reopened her incision and found a surgical needle still lodged within her head, her family hurried her to a private hospital. Sitara did not feel pain alleviation till the needle was taken out.

Sitara’s mother said that throughout the procedure, the community health center’s doctor was under the influence of alcohol. She was furious and demanded responsibility, saying, “We don’t want anyone to experience this. We demand action. She held out the needle that had been taken out of her daughter’s head to prove her statements.

The district’s chief medical officer, Dr. Sunil Tyagi, said that the occurrence was known about and that an investigation has been started. A two-person team has been tasked with investigating the issue, and depending on their conclusions, suitable action will be taken. Regarding the claim that the doctor was inebriated, Dr. Tyagi rejected it, stating, “There is no such doctor in the district. In this instance, the doctor does not consume any alcohol.”

The possible risks of medical negligence in government-run healthcare facilities are highlighted by this episode. If surgical needles are left inside a patient’s body, serious consequences may result, such as irritability, persistent discomfort, and even internal organ damage. Concerns are frequently raised over the degree of training, quality control, and responsibility among medical staff in public hospitals.

The case has brought attention to the urgent need for tighter oversight, more stringent rules, and a stronger focus on patient safety in healthcare procedures. It also emphasizes how critical it is to resolve any possible cases of medical personnel acting irresponsibly or misbehaving in order to rebuild public confidence in healthcare institutions.
