Hanumanthu Reddy, a 45-year-old dentist, was recently reported to the Gachibowli police for reportedly acting inappropriately with a woman at a pub in Gachibowli, Hyderabad’s Financial District. The event happened on the intervening night of September 20 and 21, and the woman, who is the wife of an Indian Police Service (IPS) officer in Telangana, submitted a complaint following it.
The Tabula Rasa pub’s management first brought the issue to the police’s notice. According to CCTV footage from the pub that was turned in as proof, the suspect is seen acting strangely toward the woman when he is drunk. After seeing the video, the Gachibowli police verified that the subject behaved inappropriately and that he was obviously intoxicated at the time.
After undergoing an alcohol test, Reddy’s Blood Alcohol Content (BAC) was discovered to be approximately 100 mg/dL, indicating that he was inebriated. He was consequently charged under statutes pertaining to insulting and outraging a woman’s modesty. Officials have clarified that he was charged under clause 35 of the BNSS and other pertinent parts pertaining to misbehavior towards women. However, the precise legal interpretation of this clause is still unknown in public reporting.
On September 21, Reddy received a notification when the victim and the pub’s management filed an official complaint. The Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) received a sample of his blood to verify the amount of alcohol in his system at the time of the occurrence. He was also briefly detained by the police before being freed, but further inquiries are yielding additional information about the situation.
This episode highlights the rising concern about harassment in public places, especially bars and other nightclubs where intoxication-related misbehavior is a typical occurrence. The victim in this case is an IPS officer’s wife, which emphasizes how anyone can experience similar events, regardless of social standing. To guarantee that justice is done, the authorities have taken the required actions by gathering evidence and carrying out their investigation.
This example serves as a clear reminder of the need for more stringent oversight and enforcement of appropriate conduct in public areas in order to protect everyone’s safety and dignity, but especially that of women. The study is still on, and more changes are anticipated.
