Assam Medical College to Introduce Robotic Surgery, Marking a New Era in Healthcare Innovation

The oldest medical school in Northeast India, Assam Medical College (AMC) in Dibrugarh, has announced the addition of robotic surgery as a major improvement to its medical offerings. AMC’s superintendent, Dr. Dhrubajyoti Bhuyan, made this announcement during the 78th anniversary of the institution’s founding day. AMC has a long history of leading medical developments in the area, having been founded in 1947 as the Berry White Medical School in 1900 by Dr. John Berry White.

Dr. Bhuyan stressed that the institution, which has always been at the forefront of healthcare innovation in the Northeast, has advanced significantly with the advent of robotic surgery. He clarified that the new robotic surgery facility will improve surgical quality and precision, which would benefit patients. Furthermore, it is anticipated that robotic surgery would drastically shorten recuperation periods, which will revolutionize both the hospital and its patients. By implementing this state-of-the-art technology, AMC will enhance its capacity to provide healthcare, giving residents of the area better access to cutting-edge medical care.

During his speech, Dr. Bhuyan also discussed some of AMC’s other ongoing projects. These demonstrate the institution’s larger dedication to patient safety and public health, and include a dedicated suicide prevention helpline and assistance with managing drug side effects. These services contribute to the college’s endeavors to interact with the community outside of its academic and medical roles, guaranteeing the patients’ overall health in a number of ways.

AMC principal Dr. Sanjeeb Kakati raised the college flag as part of a number of ceremonial events to commemorate the foundation day event. He also used the occasion to consider the institution’s lengthy history. While acknowledging the difficulties the college has experienced over the years, Dr. Kakati stressed that AMC has earned its prestigious place in the medical community via tenacity and diligence. Faculty, staff, and students attended an open session at the Dr. John Berry White auditorium where he also gave a presentation of the annual report.

In addition, the ceremony honored students’ academic accomplishments by recognizing MBBS toppers and congratulating notable alumni. A cultural presentation that showcased the lively campus life and AMC’s history as a regional hub for medical excellence brought the day to a close.

With the advent of robotic surgery, AMC’s foundation day not only commemorated the college’s rich past but also ushered in an exciting new age, establishing it as a pioneer in medical innovation in Northeast India.
