Plans to create an AIIMS satellite facility in Ghaziabad’s trans-Hindon area have been initiated in response to Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s announcement regarding the creation of a new top medical institute for the city. A 12-acre plot of land in Vasundhara has been found for the project, and district magistrate Indra Vikram Singh has confirmed this. A proposal for the project has already been sent to the state government.
There are currently no government hospitals in the trans-Hindon region, which includes Indirapuram, Vasundhara, Vaishali, Kaushambi, and Delta Colony in Surya Nagar and is home to roughly 2 million people. The community has long demanded better healthcare services as a result of this absence. Though proposals for a government hospital in Vasundhara have been discussed in the past, they have not materialized until now.
District government representatives mentioned that the concept of an AIIMS satellite center was put out in the past to help ease the patient backlog at the main AIIMS facility in Delhi. It is anticipated that the proposed medical facility will offer lodging for patient attendants as well as outpatient treatments. Patients in need of admission would still be directed to the main AIIMS in Delhi, though.
When finished, this new hospital would be the second AIIMS in the state, after the one in Raebareli that was authorized in 2009. The construction of the new institution will be managed by the Uttar Pradesh government. At present, there are four government hospitals in Ghaziabad: the MMG Hospital, the District Combined Hospital, the New District Women Hospital, and a smaller facility located in Loni. The Chief Minister recently dedicated a brand-new, 50-bed hospital; however, it is not yet functioning.
These current hospitals provide modern surgical treatments and medical care to a sizable patient population, which includes residents of nearby districts like Meerut, Hapur, and Bulandshahr. For example, the Combined Hospital sees close to 1,000 patients a day, whereas the outpatient department (OPD) of MMG Hospital sees about 2,500 people a day on average. Approximately 100 patients are reported to the OPDs of the Women and Loni hospitals each day.
Despite these resources, there is a severe lack of medical staff; among the four hospitals, 90 of the 364 authorized doctor posts are currently unfilled. It is projected that the opening of the AIIMS satellite center will greatly improve the region’s healthcare services and accessibility, meeting the needs of the local population as well as the facility shortfall.
