The Central Government has approved Rs 104.66 crore to upgrade healthcare facilities in the state’s hill districts, Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh said on Thursday. The goal of this investment is to close the gap in medical infrastructure in these underprivileged communities. Singh thanked Union Health Minister JP Nadda, Union Minister of Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER) J. M. Scindia, and Prime Minister Narendra Modi for their assistance in improving healthcare in Manipur.
Singh emphasized in a post on the social media site X (previously Twitter) that the approved money will give the hill districts—Chandel, Ukhrul, Jiribam, Senapati, and Tamenglong—access to cutting-edge medical services and equipment. Modern medical facilities including CT scans, MRIs, intensive care unit (ICU) services, and super-specialty care will soon be available in these historically underserved locations in terms of healthcare infrastructure. The goal is to improve residents’ access to essential medical services by bringing healthcare closer to these isolated areas.
Singh also stated that the already-existing Churachandpur Medical College is helping to change the healthcare system in the area. It is anticipated that this medical college will significantly enhance healthcare delivery and medical education, especially in the hill districts.
The Prime Minister’s Development Initiative for North East Region (PM-DevINE), a program created to support sustainable and balanced development in India’s northeastern states, is the source of the Rs 104.66 crore award. In order to guarantee that the people in Manipur’s hilly and isolated regions receive the same calibre of healthcare as those in other regions of the nation, Singh underlined that this program is a step towards achieving equal healthcare for all.
Residents will no longer have to travel far for specialized treatments thanks to this financing, which will help strengthen the region’s general healthcare system and upgrade medical infrastructure. It is anticipated that the new facilities will greatly enhance the health outcomes in these regions, giving the area’s healthcare capabilities a much-needed boost.
