Hemant Soren, the Chief Minister of Jharkhand, set the cornerstone for Apollo Hospitals Enterprises’ new multispecialty hospital on October 7, 2024, in Ranchi’s Smart City neighborhood. The Ranchi Municipal Corporation has allotted 2.75 acres of land for the construction of this 310-bed institution. This hospital’s dedication to offering free or heavily discounted medical care through government programs to 10% of patients who fall below the federal poverty level (BPL) is one of its noteworthy features. In a region where healthcare resources are frequently few, this program seeks to improve access to healthcare for the economically disadvantaged segments of society.
This hospital’s construction coincides with other noteworthy advancements in Jharkhand’s healthcare system. The new building at MGM Medical College and Hospital in Jamshedpur was inaugurated by Chief Minister Soren just one day before the ceremony to lay the foundation stone. With this extension, which came at a cost of about Rs 376 crore, the hospital will be able to accommodate 700 beds instead of just 500, which would improve healthcare in the area. The state government’s dedication to improving healthcare accessibility and infrastructure for its citizens is shown in these efforts.
Apart from the Apollo Hospital, Soren declared the opening of an additional medical facility in Itki, Ranchi, which is funded by the Azim Premji Foundation. This program is a component of a larger effort to provide access to healthcare in underserved and rural areas, guaranteeing that locals can get the treatment they require without incurring undue financial hardship.
The Chief Minister also emphasized continued initiatives to provide affordable housing in the area. As part of this plan, six new residential buildings have been built in Ranchi’s Islam Nagar. Additionally, Soren gave keys to 291 recipients of the PM Awas Yojana, a government program designed to give inexpensive homes to the urban poor, on the same day.
All of these changes point to a strong strategy being implemented by the Jharkhand government to address housing and healthcare issues, especially for people who are impoverished. The government wants to promote a healthier, more just society by making sure that vulnerable people are catered to in healthcare facilities and by making vital services easier to get.
