Teen Arrested for Killing Doctor Over Treatment Fee Dispute at Delhi Nursing Home

A 17-year-old boy was taken into custody in New Delhi on Thursday after it was reported that he killed Dr. Javed Akhtar, a 55-year-old physician, at his Nima Hospital, a private nursing facility in the Kalindi Kunj neighborhood. The incident happened the day before when the young person went to the hospital for first aid treatment together with another adolescent acquaintance who is currently on the run. Inside his cabin, Unani physician Dr. Akhtar was shot and killed.

The child allegedly said that the doctor overcharged for the therapy, which motivated him to do the crime, according to sources. After the event, the youngster shared a picture of herself on social media along with the message, “Kar diya 2024 mein murder” (Finally committed murder in 2024).

The weapon used in the crime has been found, and both youngsters were from the same neighborhood. In relation to the event, the police also questioned the spouse and a female nurse who worked at the nursing home.

The two youngsters arrived at the hospital late on Wednesday night, according to the medical personnel. Since one of them had been treated at the same hospital the previous evening, he asked for a change of bandage for his damaged toe. They proceeded to Dr. Akhtar’s cabin after asking for a prescription when the dressing was finished. Gajala Parveen and Md. Kamil, two hospital employees, heard a gunshot a short while later and hurried to the doctor’s cabin, where they discovered him bleeding from a head wound.

This tragedy occurs barely two months after a horrifying episode in which a state-run hospital in Kolkata saw a doctor on the night shift be murdered and raped. Following the event in Kolkata, doctors nationwide staged protests calling for improved safety protocols for healthcare personnel who are on duty. The current incidence in Delhi has once again exposed the vulnerabilities of medical workers and the urgent need for steps to safeguard their safety while serving patients.
