The Hyderabad-based pharmaceutical company Granules India has introduced ‘Breast Health Express,’ a mobile unit designed to improve cancer screening services for marginalized areas. This program, which was launched in collaboration with the Asian Medical Foundation, UC Breast Foundation, and AIG Hospitals, marks a substantial improvement in the accessibility of cancer screening and treatment, especially in rural areas with limited access to medical facilities.
The Breast Health Express has state-of-the-art mammography and ultrasound equipment in addition to vital health check instruments for blood pressure, glucose monitoring, and hemoglobin monitoring. Using a holistic approach that emphasizes early identification of breast cancer, this strategy makes sure that vital health services are provided directly to communities who need them. Furthermore, the mobile unit offers free medications, demonstrating its dedication to ensuring that everyone has access to healthcare.
“The launch of the Breast Health Express embodies Granules India’s core philosophy of innovating beyond pharmaceuticals to make a direct impact on public health,” said Uma Chigurupati, Executive Director of Granules India and Chairperson of the Granules Trust, underscoring the company’s commitment to public health. She underlined the pressing need for breast cancer screening services in these communities, noting that this initiative is especially important in rural areas where access to healthcare is restricted.
The chairman of AIG Hospitals, Dr. D. Nageshwar Reddy, emphasized the importance of the relationship between the institutions and said it is an example of how private sector collaborations can successfully address important healthcare issues. He mentioned that in order to ensure that individuals who require cancer detection receive it, Breast Health Express will bring critical screening services to outlying locations.
The UC Breast Foundation’s founder and consultant breast oncologist, Dr. Pragnya Chigurupati, went into more detail about the initiative’s potential to change lives. She said that the goal of the Breast Health Express is to enable women to perform routine self-examinations and to increase awareness of breast health in addition to offering screenings. The UC Breast Foundation provides financial support to women who need life-saving procedures like radiation therapy, chemotherapy, and surgery in addition to its dedication to encouraging early identification.
The Breast Health Express will first operate in and around Hyderabad, with plans to extend its services to other districts in Telangana in the upcoming months. The start of the service coincides with Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October. With the ultimate goal of saving lives via early diagnosis and education, this program not only meets urgent healthcare requirements but also acts as a model for enhancing cancer screening and awareness in underserved areas.
