K Prabhu, a 21-year-old man, died in a terrible occurrence at Senjeri village, Coimbatore, after receiving an injection from an unregistered medical practitioner. Prabhu visited the Doss Medical Centre in Senjeri on Saturday with stomach pains. Victor Jeeva Rathinam, a 27-year-old man who completed his MBBS degree in Georgia but failed the Foreign Medical Graduates Examination (FMGE), which is required to practice medicine in India, gave him an injection.
Prabhu went back home after getting the injection, but in that day, he passed out in his bathroom. After being taken to a private hospital in Senjerimalai, he was hurried there and the doctors pronounced him dead. A cause-of-death inquiry is presently underway.
The Sulthanpet police filed a case of unnatural death under Section 194 of the BNSS Act, which deals with situations involving unlicensed medical practice, in response to a complaint from Prabhu’s mother, Rangal. The joint director of health services, NN Rajasekaran, was also informed by the police and opened an investigation into the occurrence.
According to the research, Victor Jeeva Rathinam was using the prescription slip of Shan Jeevanesan, a registered physician who happens to be a relative of Paul Jeyaseelan, the proprietor of the medical center. Concerns over the validity of the medical procedures at the center have been raised by the fact that Shan Jeevanesan, a registered physician who visits the clinic twice a month, has not visited in the previous three months. Victor’s practice was proven to be completely unqualified when it was discovered that his younger brother, who had also finished his MBBS in Georgia, had passed the FMGE but was still seeking registration with the Tamil Nadu Medical Council.
Authorities conducted a postmortem on Prabhu at the government ESI Medical College and Hospital in Singanallur. Samples from the deceased’s internal organs have been sent for pathological and chemical analysis to determine the exact cause of death. The final report is expected within a week.
Based on the findings from the health director’s report, the police are expected to file a case against Victor Jeeva Rathinam for unauthorized medical practice. This tragic incident highlights the dangers of unregistered medical practitioners and the importance of regulatory oversight in healthcare to prevent such unfortunate events.
