The family of Priyanka Bishnoi, a 33-year-old sub-divisional magistrate (SDM) from Jodhpur, Rajasthan, has accused medical professionals of negligence in her untimely death. Earlier this month, Bishnoi, an officer of the Rajasthan Administrative Services (RAS) batch of 2016, had surgery at Vasundhara Hospital in Jodhpur. After the procedure, her condition worsened, so her family decided to move her to a hospital in Ahmedabad, where she eventually passed away. Her relatives have requested legal action against the hospital and the participating doctors, as her death has caused significant anger, especially within the Bishnoi community.
The family claims that during the procedure, Bishnoi took too much anesthesia and went into a coma. They have demanded a comprehensive investigation, claiming that her death was caused by the doctors’ carelessness. In response to the commotion, the district government sent out an inquiry, and Jodhpur District Collector Gaurav Agrawal assembled a team of five people to investigate the matter.
Leaders of the community, such as Devendra Budia, the representative for the Bishnoi community, have expressed worries about a potential plot behind the officer’s tragic death and have called for a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe to guarantee an open inquiry. The mounting calls for justice both inside and outside of the community have been bolstered by this desire.
Priyanka Bishnoi passed away, and Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma conveyed his profound grief, describing it as “very sad” and extending prayers to her family. In expressing his sympathies, former chief minister Ashok Gehlot mentioned that Bishnoi was a bright young officer whose life was cruelly cut short.
In her capacity as an SDM, Bishnoi was well-liked and had inspired many with her tenacity and love of public service. During a public speech, she disclosed that she had always wanted to work as a bureaucrat, having been inspired by a sub-divisional official who visited her school while she was in class eight. She would never forget the blue beacon on the officer’s car, and she decided she wanted to be an administrative officer after that.
Her sudden passing has created a vacuum in her community and brought up serious issues with medical responsibility in India. Determining the facts of her death and whether or not negligence was a factor will require a thorough inquiry.
