Tragically, two medical students from Indore’s MGM Medical College perished in the Dhawari Dam in Panna, Madhya Pradesh, after drowning. The event happened while the first-year MBBS scholars were having a leisurely visit to the dam. Three buddies, Krishna Gupta from Ajaygarh, Arvind Prajapati from Umaria, and Abhishek Bairwa from Rajasthan, were reportedly among the group. One of them unintentionally went into deep water while taking a bath in the dam, setting off a series of disastrous circumstances that resulted in the drowning of two pupils.
Abhishek Bairwa, the lone survivor, told the police what happened. He clarified that Arvind Prajapati had originally struggled after falling into the dam’s deeper section. Krishna Gupta jumped into the river to try to save him. Regretfully, neither student was able to maintain their buoyancy and ultimately perished by drowning. Abhishek tried to warn those around him and made frantic appeals for aid, but by the time help got there, it was too late. Both Krishna and Arvind were pronounced dead at the hospital after their bodies were later found by the police and residents.
The loss of Krishna Gupta is very painful for his family. Being the only son, Krishna had a big responsibility to provide for his family in the future. Krishna’s education was partially funded by the earnings of his two elder sisters, Mansi and Meenakshi, who handled family costs through sewing and embroidery work. The fact that Krishna excelled academically as well—he was a topper at Navodaya Vidyalaya—made his family and community even more devastated by his passing.
The occurrence stunned the neighborhood, and many Ajaygarh locals hurried to the dam to assist with the search after learning of it. They looked for the students for nearly thirty minutes, but sadly, the rescue effort became a recovery mission.
This tragedy emphasizes the significance of water safety and the risks associated with swimming in unknown or dangerous regions without taking the necessary safeguards. The tragic death of these two intelligent students serves as a stark reminder of the unpredictability of the risks associated with these types of natural aquatic bodies, particularly for people who are ignorant of their currents or depths.
