In honor of its 180th anniversary, Grant Medical College and Sir JJ Group of Hospitals in Mumbai are starting a major infrastructural renovation. One of the main projects is building a modern residential complex for hospital employees that will cost Rs 728 crore and house 1,500 families. With eight opulent buildings, podium parking, gardens, and a swimming pool, this project is anticipated to enhance the working environment for employees. By providing better living conditions, the hospital hopes to improve employee satisfaction, output, and general health while also improving medical care.
Overdue for an overhaul, JJ Hospital is concentrating on upgrading its infrastructure in response to the burden brought on by the Covid-19 outbreak. In addition to modernizing its physical space, the hospital is adding four specialized medical courses to its academic program: MD in Emergency Medicine, MD in Geriatrics, DM in Interventional Cardiology, and MD in Immunohematology. Building a new super-specialty facility, modernizing intensive care units (ICUs), and enhancing operating rooms are all part of this renovation. Additionally, the hospital is transforming a few wards into high-dependency units, and all beds will now have oxygen supplies to better care for patients in need of urgent medical attention.
The capacity of JJ Hospital to provide medical education has greatly expanded with the advent of these specializations. The number of yearly admissions to MD and MS programs has increased from 127 to 309 since 2017. The hospital is nearly doubling its present capacity of 1,352 beds by constructing a super-specialty center with 1,200 extra beds to accommodate this growth. This extension increases the hospital’s capacity to care for more patients while guaranteeing that medical students have plenty of opportunity to learn in a first-rate setting.
By installing robotic surgery systems in its orthopedics and surgery departments, JJ Hospital is bringing cutting-edge surgical techniques to patients and updating its medical equipment. In addition, patients undergoing neurosurgery or gangrene can benefit from hyperbaric oxygen therapy provided by the hospital.
Furthermore, JJ Hospital is the first government hospital in Maharashtra to have a state-of-the-art virtual anatomy dissection table. With the aid of this technology, medical students can investigate and learn anatomy without the constraints of conventional cadaver-based dissection. It offers a comprehensive 3D representation of the human body. This cutting-edge technology offers an interactive, hands-on learning environment that improves the accuracy of medical instruction.
