Doctor Assaulted by Drug-Induced Patient at Bettadasanapura Hospital, Suspect Charged Under Medical Protection Act

A 35-year-old hotel chef named Ashish viciously attacked a 37-year-old doctor named Dr. Nagendrappa on Monday night in Bettadasanapura. This was a troubling event. Ashish, a Nepali national, was being held by the police after he caused a disturbance in public while under the influence of drugs. The police took him to a private hospital for treatment after discovering him in an agitated state.

Ashish was taken to the hospital by the police after he hit his head on a car, causing injuries to himself. Before they left, they gave him over to the medical personnel. After admitting Ashish as a patient, Dr. Nagendrappa started tending to his wounds. But when Ashish, who was obviously under the influence of narcotics, started acting aggressively, things quickly got out of hand.

Ashish became violently ill while two nurses were trying to bandage his wounds and give him intravenous fluids. With a knife in hand, Ashish stormed towards the nurses as he started to ransack the room. The nurses left the room, fearing for their lives. Ashish carried on his rampage, chasing after the running nurses while holding a pair of scissors.

Hearing the disturbance, Dr. Nagendrappa hurried to the site to diffuse the tension. Even though he tried to pacify Ashish, things went south very fast. During the altercation, Ashish bit Dr. Nagendrappa and slashed at his hands and mouth with the scissors.

The attack was brutal, and Dr. Nagendrappa didn’t get help until other hospital staff members stepped in. After much difficulty, they were able to detain Ashish, and they informed the police, who went back to the hospital. In order to guarantee Ashish could continue receiving treatment while in detention, the police re-secured him by handcuffing him.

Since then, the Karnataka Prohibition of Violence against Medicare Service Personnel and Damage to Property in Medicare Service Institutions Act, 2009 has been used by the police to file a complaint against Ashish. The purpose of this legislation is to safeguard medical facilities from harm and shield healthcare personnel from abuse. In addition, Ashish is charged with intentionally causing harm under Section 115 of the Indian Penal Code. The matter is still being investigated, and depending on the hospital’s and Dr. Nagendrappa’s complaint, legal action will be taken.

This violent occurrence serves as a reminder of the grave dangers that healthcare workers must take, especially when interacting with people who are extremely agitated or under the influence of narcotics. It emphasizes how important it is for medical facilities to have strong security measures in place in order to safeguard employees and guarantee a secure workplace.
