The landmark procedure involved a 45-year-old male patient who was declared brain dead at the ESIC hospital. Under the guidance of Dr. Samson, the neurosurgery team at the hospital took the crucial step of counseling and educating the patient’s family about the importance and process of organ donation. With their consent, the organs were then allocated through the ‘Jeevan Daan’ initiative, which is a program dedicated to facilitating organ donation and transplantation.
The success of this procedure highlights the collaborative efforts of various specialized teams at the hospital. The kidney was transplanted into a 50-year-old female patient, a long-time beneficiary of ESIC, who had been on dialysis for the past four years. The liver and another kidney were allocated to the Osmania General Hospital, where two additional lives were saved through successful transplants.
The meticulous and complex process of organ retrieval was carried out by Dr. Madhu, Dr. Sandeep, and their teams, while the actual transplant surgery at ESIC was performed by Dr. Jagdeeshwar and Dr. Pandu Ranga Rao, the chief transplant surgeons. The anesthesia team was led by Dr. Nagarjuna, and the nephrology team was headed by Dr. Dhanalaxmi, ensuring that the procedure met the highest medical standards.
This successful operation has opened new avenues for the ESIC hospital, enabling it to receive an allocated share of organs from Jeevan Daan in the future.
