Due to a strike by resident doctors, MB Hospital in Udaipur, the largest hospital in its division, had major disruptions in healthcare services. 650 resident doctors participated in this action, which was organized by the Udaipur Resident Doctors Association, by refusing to execute their assigned work as a form of protest about unresolved concerns with the hospital administration. Senior physicians were forced to intervene, but they couldn’t handle the high volume of patients due to their small numbers, which resulted in lengthy lines and wait times for care.
The primary cause of the walkout was the resident doctors at MB Hospital’s irregular receipt of stipends, wages, housing rent allowances (HRA), and arrears during the previous year. The doctors’ dissatisfaction has increased because there has been no resolution despite several alerts and requests to the hospital administration. The Udaipur Resident Doctors Association’s president, Dr. Deepak Ninama, and general secretary, Dr. Jatin Prajapati, emphasized that Udaipur is experiencing more serious financial problems than other parts of Rajasthan.
The early effects of the strike were significant. Patients’ anxiety and uncertainty increased as numerous planned surgeries were rescheduled and given new dates. Residents doctors gathered on the hospital’s main porch to voice their displeasure and put pressure on the administration to resolve their complaints.
Complicating matters further, resident doctors’ unresolved problems worried intern physicians as well, so they joined the strike in solidarity. This show of support highlights the dispute’s wider ramifications for the hospital’s whole medical staff.
The strike’s duration is yet unknown because resident physicians have stated they won’t go back to work until their demands are satisfied. This puts MB Hospital in a difficult situation that needs to be resolved in order to resume regular business and guarantee that patient care is not jeopardized any more.
